Road Repaving During the project you will need to drive down to the club on the south side of the road and around the east end of the road. Please park either in the normal parking lot to the west of the hangars. (the ramp area east of the hangars will not be effected but please do not park there). Please do not park near the east end of the road since in the event that someone wants to fly a glider they will need to maneuver the glider down around the east end of the road to gain access to the runway. The main part of the project will take place on the main road from Bell Road to the east end of the pavement near the Walnut tree. |

Fall Festival and Boom-A-Rang We are planning to fly the ‘Boom-A-Rang’ cross-country contest (turn points yet to be determined), and a Spot Landing Contest. For our newer members, the cross-country contest is flown to some local turn points such as Morris and Joliet airports. We can fly all the club gliders and if you want to participate, have an experienced cross-country pilot in the back seat to fly with you. The same is true for the Spot Landing contest where you stop short of an orange cone and we measure how far away you are without going past the cone. Again, an experienced instructor can fly with you if you’re not qualified to solo a glider. The dinner will include commercially catered ‘Fried’ Chicken. If you are not inclined to have the chicken, you can bring your choice of main dish, the grills will be available. We will also ask that you bring a dish to pass for all to enjoy including a salad or vegetable or dessert. As it’s been the past few years, BYOB if you want an alcoholic drink and the club will have soda and water available. The club will also provide the plates, napkins and plastic ware. As usual, on Friday, we will need volunteers to sweep the hangar, clean the clubroom, and bathrooms. We’ll set up the tables and chairs the day of the event. After the event is over, we will need a crew to clean up the kitchen and store the aircraft in the hangar. We will plan to have dinner start at 6PM. The cost will be $7 per person. Please RSVP to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. so that we know how much chicken to order. We need to have a count by Monday, September 8th. |

Where We Fly
Our members fly on weekends throughout the Northern Illinois soaring season, and on weekdays whenever one of our many tow pilot members is available to tow.
Typical cross-country routes from CGC go from northwest to south from Minooka, away from Lake Michigan and the Class B & C airspace. The longest recorded flight from CGC was 435 miles free distance by Harold Jensen in April 1962. This was accomplished in a plywood "floater" sailplane, Harold was an excellent pilot as well.
Soaring in Northern Illinois
The Chicago Glider Club has an active membership of about 80 pilots involved in all aspects of the sport, from instruction through to participation in local, Regional and National soaring contests.
Founded in 1953, we own and manage all of our facilities: our grass runway, hangars and clubhouse were all constructed - and are now maintained - by dedicated and highly proficient members who take pride in the club.
We own a fleet of high quality sailplanes and towplanes that provide economical soaring to club members; many members also own their own sailplanes and base them at the CGC gliderport.
