The Chicago Glider Club has an active membership of about 80 pilots involved in all aspects of the sport, from instruction through to participation in local, Regional and National soaring contests.

Founded in 1953, we own and manage all of our facilities: our grass runway, hangars and clubhouse were all constructed - and are now maintained - by dedicated and highly proficient members who take pride in the club.

Our members fly on weekends throughout the Northern Illinois soaring season, and on weekdays whenever one of our many tow pilot members is available to tow.

We own a fleet of high quality sailplanes and towplanes that provide economical soaring to club members; many members also own their own sailplanes and base them at the CGC gliderport.

 News and Announcements
Jun 27, 2010Annuals Complete
Annuals on the Blue-21 and the ASW-24 were completed on June 25. Crewchiefs Jim Patton and Ken Hanford did all the hard work and Ron did the inspections. Don Kroesch installed the boom mikes in the Blue-21. The mikes sound a little weak and we will be installing an amplifier to help with that problem.
Jun 12, 2010ASK-21 Cushions and Transponder checks
Jon Slack had 2 seat back cushions slimmed down for the ASK-21. Let your board know if they fit any better than the thicker version. All the transponders have passed their checks except for the Duo. That transponder is being sent out for repair.
Jun 12, 2010ASK-21 Hangar Dollys & Flight Manuals
Bob Quas has modified the wood block in the ASK-21 hangar dollys so that it will be easier to load. Let us know if it works or still needs further modification. Remember to load the glider on the dollys backward. Once we think that we have the correct configuration then we will again install the main wheel fairing. We have printed 20 ASK-21 flight manuals. They are $3 each and will be in the clubroom, top drawer of the filing cabinet. Sign your name on the list and Ron will bill you.

 Where we Fly

Typical cross-country routes from CGC go from northwest to south from Minooka, away from Lake Michigan and the Class B & C airspace. The longest recorded flight from CGC was 435 miles free distance by Harold Jensen in April 1962.
